This post is just continuing the post above (that was getting too long).
Even though Lynette was very well prepared for her lecture in Seattle she still was a little nervous. Then, as we were waiting for the meeting to start Lynette started shaking from nerves when a very famous artist walked in (I don't remember her name).
Still she was able to keep her calm during the presentation and did quite well. She got a number of good comments afterwards.
The name of the show was Animales (sic). Lynette's challenge was to create a line of work that satisfied that theme and the subject matter of her current body of art.
She has been dealing a lot with the concept of 'traces' that humans leave on their environment. For example, a lot of her work has her fingerprints incorporated into the piece. The image of a fingerprint represents marks (visible or invisible) that people leave behind even after they have physically gone to another place.
She has been incorporating hair into her work for the same reason. Hair is inadvertently left behind as it falls off your head. Hair contains DNA and is often used to learn a great deal about people (just watch CSI and you’ll know what I mean). Unintentionally we leave a little piece of ourselves in just about everyplace we go.
So the challenge was to expand that concept to a line of work with an Animal theme. She decided to use animal tracks to represent the idea that people also leave trails that can be used by others to determine where they’re headed and where they’ve been.
Here are some images of her work and concept. To see the entire show click here.
